Announcing it on his Instagram, James Gunn has finally revealed a portion of Superman’s suit for the upcoming Superman film. The director of the film took to the social media platform to share the exciting revelation of the Man of Steel’s garments as he gives fans a first look image of the costume for the upcoming film.
In the same posting, Gunn also addresses a new title change for the film as well. Originally called Superman: Legacy, it seems the film is now simply called SUPERMAN.
He says, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I Locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”
Still planned for a July 2025 release date, fans will finally get to see the newly casted Superman actor David Corenswet as he dons the cape in a brand new Superman film. Until then, this image is a sign that the film is still going strong and ready to bring a brand new Superman iteration for the Silver Screen.
What is “SUPERMAN” about?
Before it’s announcement, fans have been clamoring for a new Superman film following the DCEU’s failed attempts at a cinematic franchise. Cue James Gunn and his story for one. Since Day One, he has been giving hints and confirmations, as well as debunking fake rumors, about the film. Following the casting of David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, many are eager to see what he’ll bring to the role.
Though not much is known about the film’s plot or story, what we do know is that it will not be another origin story and will center on telling Clark’s story of balancing his Kryptonian and Earthly heritage. A journey of self-discovery of sorts. The film will star other supporting actors taking on the roles of some of DC’s greatest heroes and villains like Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), the Engineer (Maria Gabriela De Faria), Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Otis (Lawrence Rosemore), Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio), and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult).
The film is sure to be a wild and unforgettable ride as Superman embarks in this new journey and one that will certainly make viewers believe that a man can truly fly.
SUPERMAN is set to release July 11, 2025.
